An autumn breeze sweeps across the deck of Beyond Restaurant and Lounge. A full moon hangs overhead, illuminating tables filled with martinis, California rolls and soy sauce. Couples fill the tables, speaking in hushed tones, in accordance with the romantic ambiance that the restaurant presents. A creek flows underneath the deck. You can hear the pitter-patter of raindrops plummeting into the depths of these waters. To most people, this sounds like an ideal date.

     If you are looking to recreate this 5-star date night while ballin’ on a budget, Beyond is the place to go. They have a diverse menu, offering everything from sushi and pho to noodles and rice.      My favorite meal here starts with the tuna tartare. The balsamic reduction makes this appetizer delectable. For my entrée, my go to is the spicy drunken noodles. The serving size is perfect, and I sometimes even find myself going home with leftovers. If you’re a sushi fan, any of their cooked or raw rolls have flawless proportions of rice to vegetable to fish. I am basic with my sushi order and go with the “Tiger” which is a shrimp tempura. You cannot go wrong with this.

     What I found to be the best part about getting all this food is the price. That meal provides more than enough food for a reasonable deal. You are looking at about $20-$25 a person, but like I described earlier, this restaurant is ideal for special occasions or date night. The quality of the ambiance, food, and service is worth this cost.

     Service at Beyond is professional. There’s never been a time when I waited an unordinary amount of time for my food to delivered. The wait staff are polite and on point with everything. Water glasses are never empty, dirty dishes are never left on the table, and orders are always accurate. It is a great place to bring a date because you will know what to expect every time.

     Beyond is in downtown Harrisonburg. Parking is easy; find a spot in the Water Street deck and the restaurant is located right across the street at 50 Water Street.
