Massanutten Fall Foliage Ski Lift Ride
by Meghan Tocci

There might have been a fair number of elderly folks around us, and I might have been there with Kim—but the Massanutten seasonal chair lift ride is the perfect spot for a date. Living vicariously through Kim’s current romance, I couldn’t help but imagine what a unique, yet low-key, spot this would be to share a romantic afternoon. I mean, just look at that view.

Here’s the scoop.
During the Fall, Massanutten (which is like the Disney of the Shenandoah Valley… I’ll get to that though) opens up their ski lifts for a scenic tour of the foliage. Between the two lifts, you’re gliding through the sky, dangling your feet, and taking in the sights from a crystal clear vantage point.
The lifts themselves are pretty large. So, for a first date you have the option to keep some distance. I know personally I like to assure my date’s not some sort of serial killer before I get cozy above ground. However, on a chilly fall afternoon with a longtime lover, this is the perfect spot to cuddle up.

Once you reach the top of the peak you can step off the lift and take to the trails. This is the perfect opportunity to settle down for a picnic, or perhaps explore some of the views from the very tip of Massanutten.

If you brought sneakers and have the time on your hands, the trail to hike down the slope is a great option to slow things down. However, I think it’s worth taking the lift down to take in the other half of a truly stunning 360-degree view.

The cost of the lift is $8 for adults. Giving yourself at least an hour and a half for the experience is the minimum. After all, there’s plenty of quiet space to chat and get to know someone. Why rush things? If heights make you want to toss your lunch monkey however, there are some other amazing date options this resort offers for free.

For starters, there’s an arboretum that’s a stunning place for a stroll. If you’re looking for something a little more active, there’s also mini golf and go karts. I haven’t tried these, full disclosure, but I was pumped to see what they had as I drove through the grounds. I was particularly intrigued by the zip lining and indoor/outdoor tubing.

Keen on an adventure, I think I’ll give the zip lining a try—so stay tuned! In the meantime, go out and see all this area has to offer. Feel free to reach out to us and send us your cute date pictures. Who knows, they might even end up on our Instagram. Or our phone backgrounds.
Kidding... Maybe.

Now go get romantic.
