Wednesday Night Bingo at Wolfe Street Brewery
By Meghan Tocci

It was Wolfe street like I had never seen it before. The bar, usually packed and pulsing with music, was quieter, more intimate. Conversations were being held in tones other than yells. Beers served on flights more frequent than pints of the cheapest ale on tap. Don’t get me wrong—I enjoy Wolfe street at its most chaotic—but something about the intimacy was welcoming.

This was my original impression of Bingo at Wolfe. My affection for this weekly get together only grew as the night progressed.

Every Wednesday Wolfe Street Brewery hosts a bingo night. For those of you who aren’t 21, this event is totally inclusive. If you are 21 however, this isn’t your church basement bingo. Wolfe brews their own beers and a pint of something seasonal made this my kind of game night. I went with the Wolfetoberfest brew. Subtle, it had a richness that lacked the gimmicky and lip puckering pumpkin some other fall IPA’s fall back on.
At the register, I expected to pay for the beer and the bingo cards. I was pleasantly surprised when the manager told me it’s free to play. At stake was a $15 Wolfe Street gift card, and there was no catch. With the prices at Wolfe combined with my body mass index, $15 has the makings of a pretty decent night as far as I’m concerned.

There were four rounds of bingo with a few breaks in between each to allow for bathroom breaks, refills and small talk. People were there in big groups and small. Some people were even lounging on the floor by a small coffee table. The atmosphere was highly relaxed which is ideal for a Wednesday night out.

If you’ve never seen the interior of Wolfe, you won’t get the full sense of why a quieter night there is more relaxing. For starters, there’s large, what I assume to be, copper brew kettles taking up a fair amount of space. The metal is contrasted with exposed brick walls and worn wooden accents. Two sliding garage doors seal the entrance creating an aesthetic holy trinity for hipsters. I personally vibe with the décor, and I think most people would agree.

Outdoors features a large lawn area with delicate lighting, picnic tables, lawn games, and a grilled cheese food truck. A bit of a different atmosphere, but that only makes Wolfe ideal for cozy Fall evenings, or a warm summer night.

I will definitely be returning for Wednesday night bingo in the future. The odds never seem to be in my favor, but I can feel that gift card calling my name.
